HBS Selected as Medical Equipment Planner for Shady Grove Medical Center Patient Tower and ED

Following a nation-wide RFP/Presentation search and selection process, HBS has been selected as Medical Equipment Planner for Adventist HealthCare’s Shady Grove Medical Center Patient Tower Expansion and ED Renovation.

The new six-story, 150,352 SF tower will provide state-of-the-art replacements for its Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department. The project also will create new medical-surgical units that will allow the hospital to complete its transition to all-private patient rooms. Critical care, observation and emergency psychiatric treatment units will be repositioned into the tower, creating more efficient workflows for caregivers.

In addition to Medical Equipment Planning services, HBS is providing procurement support, and managing warehouse logistics and installation of all medical equipment.

“We are excited about the opportunity to be part of this project,” adds President and CEO Jay Hornung, ACHE, CHFM of HBS. We have worked with Wilmot Sanz, the architect for the project on other projects in the Mid-Atlantic region including a recent expansion at Suburban Hospital for the Johns Hopkins Health System in Bethesda, MD. This project is very important to HBS, as it is a symbol of Adventist HealthCare’s commitment to their community.”

Enabling projects have begun, with new construction beginning in May/June of this year. The expected completion date is 2024. The tower will be located on the surface parking lots outside Shady Grove's Emergency Department, east of the existing hospital and next to its parking garage.

Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center, a not-for-profit, 443-bed acute care facility in Rockville, Maryland, is part of Adventist HealthCare's system of services.
