Miller to lead multi-layered service line essential to bringing complex buildings and critical departments to LIFE.

HBS announces Amber Miller MSN, RN, CHFM, CIC, FAPIC has joined the firm as Vice President of Transition Planning. With more than 25 years of healthcare experience—as a clinician as well as a consultant—Miller will lead what has become a crucial element of HBS’s comprehensive suite of services.

"Amber not only has the detailed clinical background essential to successful transition planning and facility activation, she also brings ‘big picture’ common sense that applies order and logic to what can be an incredibly complex process,” says Jay Hornung ACHE, CHFM, President and CEO of HBS. "Moving into a new healthcare facility, re-launching a department, or creating an efficient, safe, patient-ready environment can be a stressful, traumatic enterprise, but Amber navigates the workflows better than anyone in the business. She understands the construction and renovation process, as well as the clinical processes that make a facility work and a move friction-free.”

Miller will oversee a team of professionals who blend clinical expertise with the design and construction process, navigating a clear, streamlined path for facilities to transition. She will collaborate with other service leads to create strategies that build on HBS’s strengths and position the organization for continued success.

“HBS represents everything I’ve been working toward in my career,” says Miller. “We share a bold vision of where the industry is heading and how we can help get it there, but we also take a proven, common-sense approach to solving problems and getting things done. Transition planning comes down to understanding operational processes and workflows as much as the practical challenges of physically moving patients, equipment and materials. It’s great to work with the best.”

As the healthcare landscape evolves, facilities and systems have only grown in complexity and cost. HBS partners with operators, organizations and stakeholders to navigate those complexities, simplify processes, and boost efficiency with the ultimate goal of improving patient care and saving lives.

Hornung continues, “Transition planning and activation are critical factors in today’s healthcare equation, so we take a comprehensive, holistic approach that starts as early in the process as possible and continues through training and change management to post-occupancy orientation and post-move stabilization. Amber has the background, expertise and mind-set to take this service line to the next level.”

Before joining HBS, Miller was the Director of Facility Activation, Facilities and Design for UCHealth in Aurora, CO, and the Manager of Infection Prevention for Denver Health in Denver, CO. She has served as an independent consultant on various infection prevention and healthcare projects for public entities such as the Department of Homeland Security, as well as various hospitals, surgery centers, healthcare contractors and construction partners. A Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado and a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager, Miller received a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Wyoming. She is certified in Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, and she has co-authored a number of scholarly articles on infection control and prevention, as well as patient safety.
